Through Campaign Montana, generous donors provided resources needed for success in the classroom, in the community and in competition. Your support provided student-athletes with scholarships and first-class training and academic support facilities. Thank you for helping Grizzly athletics grow and be a leader in the Big Sky Conference and nationally.

Washington-Grizzly Champions Center

Philanthropic support through Campaign Montana enabled several facility upgrades to improve our program’s success, and Washington-Grizzly Champions Center is the crown jewel. Before support from friends and alumni allowed us to build the Washington-Grizzly Champions Center, our old weight room was not only inadequate for UM’s more than 300 student-athletes; it was a safety concern and a barrier to recruiting Grizzlies. The Champions Center provides a state-of-the-art weight room that complements our competition venues and enables us to provide the best experiences for student-athletes.

Men’s Basketball Program

Through Campaign Montana, growing support for our men’s basketball program resulted in an impressive run of conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances. Led by Coach Travis DeCuire’s vision, philanthropic gifts to the Men’s Basketball Advancement Fund provided immediate financial support directly to the program and led to success on the court as well as unprecedented academic achievements by student-athletes. The program has served as a model for our head coaches in other sports to implement.

Eric and Blair Sprunk Student-Athlete Academic Center

With donor support, we opened the Eric and Blair Sprunk Student-Athlete Academic Center in September 2015. Located on the second floor of the Adams Center, the Sprunk Academic Center offers academic support to more than 300 student-athletes and provides facilities for Athletic Academic Services programming. The Center’s computer lab, study room, conference room, desktop computer stations and printing services promote student-athletes’ success in the classroom; UM student-athletes have maintained a cumulative GPA above 3.0 for 29 consecutive semesters.

We’ve achieved so much during Campaign Montana.
We will continue the momentum with these fundraising priorities.

Scholarships are a top priority for the University of Montana Athletic Department. Private support provides Grizzly student-athletes with opportunities for educational and athletic success. The annual cost for scholarships for UM’s more than 300 student-athletes exceeds $5 million. Growing our named and endowed scholarships is key to helping us meet this commitment.
Adams Center Renovation Projects
When the Washington-Grizzly Champions Center opened in 2017, plans were created to repurpose and renovate the vacated space. The first component of this renovation is the Montana Basketball Center, which will include a new men’s basketball locker room, team meeting room, coaches’ locker room and team lounge. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2021 at a projected cost of $2 million. Through Campaign Montana, friends and alumni helped us raise $1.8 million. Your support will help us build a new equipment center with Olympic sport locker rooms, team meeting rooms and lounges for women’s basketball and volleyball.
Sport-Specific Support
Impact Funds provide UM coaching staff with the necessary resources to build and maintain successful programs. Coaches use these funds for the area of greatest need in their respective programs, including summer school stipends, enhanced nutrition for student-athletes, increased recruiting budgets, equipment, training needs and team building opportunities.

Make no small plans. Donate

Philanthropic giving through Campaign Montana resulted in remarkable facility additions and upgrades for Grizzly Athletics, helping to provide student-athletes with the best opportunities to train and compete. With help from dedicated friends, alumni and fans, we increased the named and endowed scholarships awarded annually to student-athletes and provided our coaching staff with resources to grow their programs in the classroom and on the fields of play. We thank our giving community for their support.
